Setting Mail DB storage size Limits - want to limit the db size to 100 GB
Hi - we have a new exchange 2007 box and we would like to hard code - set - the maximum size of the mail db to be 100 GB - I recall doing this on 2003 sp2 when we increased the size of the STD version. Running Exchange 2007 sp1 - We know the size is pretty much unlimited - want to follow best practice on not allowing DB to grow larger than 100 GB. I gave multiple mail db for different groups and want to set those at 100 GB also. Last thing I want to do is fill up my drives by having the mail DB getting too big. Also - It was mentione that if I do hard code size - and it reaches the set size - IT DISMOUNTS??Need some help. Thanks. -John

Hi John, I wouldnt limit the database size since it dismount the stores and increase the downtime of my messaging service I would limit the size of mailboxes (by setting on DB or on individual user) to control database size. Periodically check the size of databases manually or schedule a powershell script to receive the report on mail daily basis or give you an alert if database size is reaching to 100GB. However here is an article what you are looking for. How to Modify a Database Size Limit http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232092.aspx
