Setting permissions on sherd mail box
Hello, Can somebody help me? We are using Exchange server 2003 and we use Public Folders. Now we decided to stop with the public folders because we have a lot of problems with them. We now created a private public user which shares the mail box. We copied thepublic folders into the inbox of this user. Now we have a problem withthe permission on each folders. There hunderds of folders and sub folders. Is it possible to set the permissions on the highest level so that al the sub folders have the same share permissions? Now we have to do each folder bij hand. Thanks. Regards, John KuijpersThe Netherlands

Hi John, You can do that with PFDavAdmin. Open PFDavAdmin -> Click on File menu -> Connect -> Give Exchange server & Global Catalog server name and select All Mailboxes -> Expandyour Shared Mailbox -> Right click on Top of Information Store -> Folder permissions & add required users and permissions -> Ok. Now to propagate the same permission on all sub folders, right clickon Top of the Information Store -> propagate Folder AECs -> select the users which you added in previous step, select Add/replace and click OK -> New window will be opened and give same permissions on all sub folders.

Hi Amit, Thanks for this silution It works well. Only, I find out that it only works when you give permissions to one person. Is it also possible to give permissions to a group? Thats what we need. I couldn't find it. Regards, John

Yes John, you can give group name instead of individual person name and procedure is same.

Hi Amit, I tried each option, but it didn't work. When I go to add a user and I fill in the group name, I get the message "No matches found" Then I go to Browse andto the groups ofthe DC. I see no groups. Wghen I go to the users I see all the users, but not the groups. Then I login on a computer as auser and give the permission on the highest level in the folder I want to share. Then I start PFDAVAdmin again and I see the group. Then I click on Propagate ACE's and choose that groupand get a popup with the error message: JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exceptionwill be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machinerather than being handled by this dialog. I also read the white paper. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but what? Regards, John

Yes John, you are correct. I also observed that we can not select mail-enabled distribution lists. So you need to create mail-enabled security group and then you can give permission to that group
