Setting up an E-mail account (outlook 2003)
I have been trying to set-up an accout for the past 3 days and it's not allowing me to do it. I click the right server which I choose POP3. I insert the correct data and then I test it. The following get completed:
establish the network, find outgoing mail server (SMTP), Find incoming mail server (POP3), and send test e-mail message.
The one that fails and I cannot get passed is Log onto incoming mail server (POP3). The error message says outlook could not connect to the incoming POP3 mail server because the server did not accept your user name or password.
I had changed it and everything several times and it still not letting me in. I do not know what to do. I have assignments that I need to work on and are due at the end of this week. If some one can explain to me how to fix this problem I would appreciate it.
Thanks,

Hi,
The testing of logon POP3 failure with error message error the server did not accept your user name or password can occur if you havent check Log on using secure Password Authentication(SPA). Please understand that we need check it when the server enabled requiring authentication.
At thime time, please follow below steps to check your E-mail Account in Outlook 2003
1. Open Outlook 2003->Tools->Email Account->view or change existing e-mail accounts ->Next->choose your POP3 account->click Change..
2. On the Email Account, check Log on using secure Password Authentication(SPA).
I believe it can resolve your problem.
Thanks,
Jason

Hello. I had exactly the same problem. I tried what Jason suggested but I failed it because the server did not support SPA. I am sure that the email address, user nameand password are filled in correctly.I also tried many times with different settings, but still I cannot logon.
So I left the setting as I tried at the first place - "reported error (0x800ccc92) : Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: - ERR Logong failure: unknown user name or bad password."
What I would like to add is virgin email account (blueyonder.co.uk).
It would be greatly appreciated if you could give me further suggestion.
Thanks,
Yut
