Setting up an Exchange account in Outlook remotely
Hey all,
I've got a PC in another country that needs to connect to an Exchange mailbox on an SBS 2008 server that I have. Short of VPN, how else can I get this account set up on the PC. I've configured it remotely so far, but I keep getting an error saying "Unable
to connect to the Microsoft Exchange Server. Outlook must be online and connected..."
Any ideas? I've tried searching for a solution but it seems that the issues with this are far too broad to pin it down
Thanks

Can you pick the server on that remote PC?
You might want to setup Outlook Anywhere on your Exchange server and have the PC use Outlook Anywhere connection.

Outlook Anywhere is configured by default in SBS 2008. However it does require DNS entries to work correctly.
If a commercial SSL certificate is deployed, along with the autodiscover DNS entry to allow Outlook 2007 or higher is used, then it shouldn't be a problem.
If the OP is using Outlook 2003 then it can be done, but requires complete manual configuration which is a pig.
Anything older and a VPN is the only option.

Hi Antony,
Per your description, you are using VPN to connect to the network which exchange email system hosted, right?
Please also confirm that, you could nslookup the exchange server, and the proper ports be opened, please refer to below:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb331973.aspx
Client would connect to exchange mailbox server using mapi protocol.
Regards!
