Setup /PrepareAD
I'm running through the pre-requisite setup steps for preparing Active Directory for the installation of Exchange 2007. When I ran setup /p /on:<myorgname>, I received the following error: Organization Preparation ......................... FAILED Active Directory operation failed on ev-int-dc.evolvepartners.com. The object 'CN=Default Global Address List,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address ListsContainer,CN=EVOLVEPARTNERS,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=evolvepartners,DC=com' already exists. I'm not sure exactly what this means. I have an existing Exchange 2003 environment, to which I'm attempting to install the first 2007 server. setup /pl and setup /ps both worked fine. Any insight is appreciated.

If you are installingthe firstExchange 2007 server in to an existing Exchange 2003 organisation you do not specify the "/on:<myorgname>" parameter in the command line. This is only used for a new Exchange Server Organisation. Cheers, Rhys

Rhys, I actually tried with the /on switch and without it, just to cover my bases. I failed with the same error message both times. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

I figured it out. The user that I was logging on with didn't have the proper permissions set on the default global address list. I ran DSACLS "CN=Default Global Address List,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=First Organization,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=Example,DC=com" and saw the permission problem. After fixing the permission problem, the setup went through fine. Thanks for the feedback.
