Shared mailbox and group addressing management
Hello, I am planning Domino 7.0 to Exch 2007 migration for a customer. The customer has some mail-in databases shared between agroup of usersand wants that when a team user sends mails outbound the from address is the shared mailbox smtp address, I mean for ex. accounting@contoso.com or helpdesk@contoso.com. With Exchange 2003 I used public folder for shared container, how can I manage shared mailboxes in Exchange 2007? I know that I can create mail-enabled groups and use the group address in the from field, but I am looking for a way to do thisprocess automatically using something like rules. Every time a component of thehelpdesk team sends email outboundthefield from sould be set to helpdesk@contoso.com automatically. Anysuggestion? Thanks Nicola

1. In Exchange 2007 you can create Shared Mailbox which can be used by multiple users like a group mailbox. Understanding Recipients Nick has explained here... Exchange 2007 and Shared Mailboxes, thanks to him. 2. Helpdesk team sends email outbound Do you mean outside to your organization? If so then you can use Address Rewriting. great feature! it's just what I meant, but my customer has not an edge transport server in place and, as far as I understand, address rewriting works on the edge. doesn't it? Nicola Papapicco

Hi Nicola, Yes correct its feature of Edge servers. You can check Transport Rules on Hub Transport Servers. However it doesnt have inbuilt option to change the From address. Overview of Transport Rules Exchange 2007 - Transport Rules You may need to develop a custom transport rule to do so. Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 SDK
