Shared mailboxes in Federation Trust
Hi
We are currently merging two organisations (Org A and Org B say) where there is a requirement to share and manage mailboxes across organisations. U ltimately, we will create a new one and migrate both, however, in the mean time, I was looking at using a
Federation trust. unfortunately, I have yet to find a way of setting a sharing policy that allows one user in Org A to manage the inbox of a user in Org B.
Is this possible or is a federation Trust limited to only calendars, contacts and free/busy?
Thanks
Kevin

You will need a two-way domain trust, and then you grant rights to users in the other organizations to mailboxes they need to use. Even with that you can't do everything you can do when the mailboxes are in the same organization.

Hi Kevin,
Which version of your exchange ststem?
Per my known, Sharing policies support the sharing of calendar and contact information with external federated organizations, external non-federated organizations, and individuals with Internet access. That is you cannot share other folder, included the inbox.
So could you please tell me the method you referred.

And the federation in Microsoft Exchange Server helps with the collaboration efforts.
Federation refers to the underlying trust infrastructure that supports federated delegation, an easy method for users to share calendar and contact information with recipients in other external federated organizations.

Hi Gavin
Many thanks for getting back, I basically gave up on using FT for what we need as we have users on both Orgs (2007 and 2010) who want to have full controll over each others mailboxes, but tey don't want to move.
As we have entered a new phase of integration, we've decided on a new forest into which we will migrate both. Not the quickest or easiest, but probably the neatest in the long run.
Cheers
Kevin
