The size of the template created in MS Office 2007 with "Word document" format is more than the size of the (same) template created with "Word 97-2003 document" format.

But when I do "save as" a Word document from "Word 97-2003 document" format to "Word document" format, the size of the document is less.

can anyone explain why the "Word document" format creates bigger size template What makes the difference?

Clarification of terms:

A Template is a very special kind of Word product. In Word 2003, it has a .dot extension; in Word 2007, it has a .dotx or .dotm extension.

A Document will have a .doc extension in Word 2003 and a .dotx or .dotm extension in Word 2007.

You seem to be using Template and Document interchangeably.

Based on my knowledge, the documents created in "Word document" format should have a smaller file size than "Word 97-2003 document" formatted documents.

From Office 2007, the default 2007 Microsoft Office system file format is new. For Word 2007, Excel 2007 and PowerPoint 2007, the new default extensions are .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. These new formats help:

• Increase file security
• Reduce the chance of file corruption
• Reduce file size
• Improve data sharing across a range of storage and retrieval systems

at Wikipedia.com, i came know that .docx files have thumbnail image of the time. is this causing the more size of .dotx?

i will try the analyzer tool and post the result.
