Slow Active CCR node
We've been experiencing some performance issues with our Exchange 2007 Mailbox servers running CCR.
I'm hoping some of you will have some ideas for optimization to improve the end user experience.
They are both running as virtual machines on different Hyper-V hosts.
The host operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2.
The guest operating system is Windows Server 2008.
Clients are running Windows Vista with Outlook 2007.
Here are the symptoms. :
Active CCR node consistently using 95% of 5GB memorySeveral end users have complained about slow performance in Outlook 2007. Occasional lags of 5-10 seconds in the Reading Pane when selecting different messages.Occasional lags of 5-10 seconds getting information to display after clicking on Calendar.Very sluggish response time when logged into the Active node while the passive node responds instantaneously.

I recommend you to try to monitor CCR via the performance monitor

Besides, please try to run ExBPA to have a health scan.

Yes 5GB. According to what I've read, for the number of users we have and load we should actually only need about 3GB.

I say may not as you are experiencing a performance issue right now and until we get to the bottom of that and determine root cause memory pressure is still in scope.
I'd start of with collecting a performance monitor log file and then running PAL against the log. It will quickly give you an idea as to what is going on. You can get the tool here

You can do the same on the Hyper-V host as well, and see if it picks up perf issues there as well.
Install the tool on your workstation. Run the Tool, and then go to the Threshold File tab. Select Exchange 2007 Mailbox in the drop down and then click to export to a PerfMon template file. Save this as a new .xml on your desktop.
Copy that file to the Exchange server, and use it to create a new data collector set in performance monitor (use a template option, and point the wizard to the xml that you copied over. See the below for more details:

OK I got this one figured out. I looked deeper into what my anti-virus was doing and noticed that a Background scan process was running all the time.
It was only using 5-10% CPU. however; as soon as I disabled that, the performance issues went away.
