Some important questions regarding Exchange Server and Domain.
I have some important questions regarding MicrosoftExchange Server and Domain and I hope that you guys will help clarify my concepts. As we know that when we use Microsoft outlook,we should configure the smtp address of the Mail Server in the outgoing Mail Server field and a POP3 address in theincoming Mail Server. My question is that when we enter the smtp address in theMicrosoft outlookprovided by an ISPinto the outgoing Mail Serverfield, thencan we simply enter theaddressPOP3 in the incoming Mail Server field or we have to enter the perticular name of the POP3? My other question is that when we enter or configure the smtp address of the Mail server of the ISP in our Microsoft Outlook then obviously our Outlook will connect to that Mail Server and send e-mails ,right? But after configuring the smtp address of the Mail Server of ISP in the Microsoft Outlook do we need to have a useraccount for that Mail Server inorder to log into the mailbox? I hope my questions are clear, Regards,

Hi, student1: You need to input the POP3 server which ISP provides to you, you may find it from ISPs website And yes, you need to apply credential [Username & Password] in order to login to mailbox. Please contact your ISPs website for related info

James, Thanks for this information, now continuing this discussion,it is a domain user account which a user uses to log into the mailbox in the Mail Server and that domainuser accountshould be created in Active Directory ,right? Assume that the Mail Server is a member Server in a domain envrionment ok? Now my question is thatdo we have to mention in the Active Directory that the user will be using the same domainuser account to log into the Mailbox? Can't we create or generate a seperate user account in Active Directoryto log intothe mailbox? James the thing that I wanted to clarify is that when I provide tech support to guests in the hotels, what we tell guests to do is simply to enter the smtp address in the Outgoing Mail Server field in the Outlook and then they start sending e-mails without problem but my question is that when entering that smtp address in the Outlook ,why doesnot the authentication box requiring username and password pops up since now they are using anew smtp address and before entering this smtp address ,the mailbox for that user must not be there in the Mail Server, right? Does the mailbox of that userautomatically gets created in the MailServer when we configure the smtp address in the Outlook? I have provided tech support to so many guests in the hotel but I havent heard any guest saying that an authentication box requiring username and password pops up when they enter smtp address in the Outlook. As you know that a user must have a domain user account in Active Directory and the e-mail address of the user contains the user id and the domain name after @. I hope my question is clearand hopeyou are not geting confused with it? Regards,

Hi, student1, I need confirm your question again for better understanding: Your environment: Hotel provides AD domain to all guests, after guests login domain by using guest credential [username & password], they can configure their outlook to send and receive messages You know, when a user wants to use a POP3 account to send and receive messages, he needs to enter some parameters [POP3 server, SMTP server, User name, Password, E-mail Address]. But you said that guests can send mails just after they enter SMTP server, can you describe more details about the set up on outlook? Notes: You can also send some screenshots to me to explain the issue [Microsoft Services File Transfer Website Password: zP@kpjIc7cd]

Actually when I give guests the smtp address and when they configure it in there outlook, they are able to send e-mails . I have never seen any guest using user id and password to log into there account. Or they might be geting a user id and password by default in the settings. I'll visit the link that you have given and will let you know. Regards,
