Some messages resend after restarting smtp
Using Exchange 2003 sp2 on Win2003 Svr SP1.
When I reboot the server or the smtp service, a handfull of miscallaneous external bound emails get resent. Users have reported that the messages that get resent did originally arrive at the recipient.
The last time I rebooted the server, I checked that the smtp queues were empty and still emails were resent again. When I use 'Message Tracking Center'it shows the emails'Origination date&time'when the original message was actually sent.EXAMPLE: user A sent email on 10 Dec 2006, I reboot serveron 5 Jan 2007, User A reports that some emails he sent on 10 Dec 2006 were received by his customers on 5 Jan 2007 again. In Message tracking in ESM the original time of the emails are 10 Dec 2006.
I have 4 mailbox stores. The first time the problem was reported, it only resent a few messages from users inmailbox store 1. The next reboot of the server only resent a few messages from users in mailbox store 2.
This problem is driving me mad.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thx

Hello,
I have thesame problem for my Exchange 2003 (sp2). When i restart smtp virtual server, exchange try to resend lots of messages already send before.
Did u find something about this ?
I think there is something about 250 Okreturned code. When sender server did not receive a returned code 250 ok for some messages, after restart he try to resend, considering like a queue message.
Any reply will be appreciated.
Thks.
