Switch compatability
Hi,I am setting up and connecting 5 new computers to a Server 2003 domain environment.I have connected the 5 newPC's to a small 8 port switch. ThenI connectedthesmall switch to theSwitch that is connected to the server and the router. The problemI'm having is that after doingthat I can't talk to the server from anyofthe newPC's. All the new PC's can talk to each other. It is like there is notany connectionto the server at all. If Irun a cable from the pc to the switch that is connected to the server than all is well. Connectivity, domainand internet access.Everything works. Is there a chance that the two switches are not compatible? That is myquestion. I haveused patch cables to attach the switch, crossover cables and no luck either way. Can anyone help with this problem?

This is a forum for Exchange questions, not general networking. You may not get the most help here. However, for some general info I would ask is what are the IP addresses that are being assigned to these machines. Are they all on the same network? Also what types of switches are you using. I thought, I may be wrong, when you do switch to switch in the Cisco world you had to use a crossover cable. Also in some of the smaller switches you can configure a switch port as an UPLINK Port. I'd also check that. Hope that helps. Mark Morowczynski MCSE 2003:Messaging, Security MCTS:Vista, Windows Mobile Admin http://almostdailytech.com
