Synchronizing Exchange and Windows Server AD
Hello, I have an AD running on Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007 also on Windows 2008. Both are running on different hardware. AD, DNS and DHCP are running on single hardware. Today my AD started giving trouble. So I had taken an image a month ago. If I successfully restore the OS, will exchange and AD synchronize? Please help me. Thanks Tonio

You only have 1DC? Can't you build another DC and replicate or is it that bad?James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

I could restore my 1 month old back and AD is running fine. Since I am not aware about the synchronizing process days, I have not connected to the network. Is there anyway to get this info

Can you confirm you only have 1 dc? If you only have 1 dc and you restore the image I can't guarantee things will come up smoothly. First your secure channel could be lost which means all your systems have to be re-joined to the domain. DNS records for the past 30 days are lost, any exchange changes you did past 30 could be lost since they are kept in AD. If your AD is fine, I would suggest build another DC and replicate to this DC. I have only on one domain controller. Also I have not made any changes in exchange in last 30 days. May be I have created few users. Now if I connect my AD and Exchange server on to the network, will I loose all previous mails. Or can you please tell me what will happen? Thanks Tonio

Thanks Tonio Just as James said, changes on Exchange Server (which saved in AD) in the past 30 days will be lost, so the the users you created in that days will be removed. The emails are saved in Exchange mailboxes, these will not remove from mailboxes. Thanks, Evan Evan Liu TechNet Community Support

Emails will be there, if you decide to restore the image, you may spend a considerable amount of time getting things in working order maybe do it on a weekend, again wouldnt recommend going down this route if possible.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com
