System Mailboxes - Exchange 2010

Hi,

I have a question about system mailboxes.

we have 4 Mailboxes servers in DAG. I can only see 1 System Mailbox, 1 Discovery and 1 FederateEmail that are in 1 mailbox server and DB.

I see some post saying that you should have 1 System Mailbox per Mailbox server in the DAG. Is this true ? And if so how can I create additional System Mailbox per Mailbox Server ?

You don't have to create them, neither you can find them with -Arbitration switch.

If you look at the "Microsoft Exchange System Objects" OU (when you click on View Menu - Advance Feature) in ADU&C, you would find them over there with object class or type = msExchSystemMailbox...

You can check which mailbox is on which DB/Server via ADSIEdit or ldp.exe by looking at homeMDB and msExchHomeServerName attributes...

Hi,

Thank for replying.

I can find them using Get-Mailbox -Arbitration and in Active Directory also. Comparing the GUID I see they are the same.

I have 3 System Mailboxes ( 1 for "System Mailbox", 1 "Discovery" System Mailbox and 1 FederateEmail )

My question is :

I have read that If you have a DAG you should have 3 system Mailboxes per Mailbox Server. Since I have 4 Mailboxes Servers shouldn't I have :

1 Mailbox server -> 3 system Mailboxes

2 Mailbox Server -> 3 system Mailboxes

3 Mailbox Server -> 3 system Mailboxes

4 Mailbox Server -> 3 System Mailbox

If this is true how do I create the additional System Mailboxes on the rest of the other Mailbox Servers.

3 System Mailboxes ( 1 for "System Mailbox", 1 "Discovery" System Mailbox and 1 FederateEmail ) - Would be located under Users OU by default and these are arbitration mailboxes that you see via Get-Mailbox -Arbitration and these are one per organization.

The system mailbox, one per mailbox database would be located under "Microsoft Exchange System Objects" OU and these you can not see via Get-Mailbox.
