Terminate user process
I have a pretty general question about how some of you handle the process of terminating accounts. I have worked in many small and large companies and this has always been difficult. I like to disable the account immediately but many times I am asked to allow an out-of-office reply for X number of days And\or I am asked to allow mailbox access to another user for new mail. Most of the time to do this I keep the account active, change the account password, strip distro groups, deny dial-in, and then give full rights to the mailbox for the user that need to have access for new mail and set a reminder in my outlook to request from the manager if I can remove the account. My biggest issues are this: Auto-response - when the user account to the mailbox is disabled, the out-of-office and rules no longer process. Mailbox\email access - I can archive mail (and that works well) but in many cases the manager may want the email to still be active for a certain time period. I have added the SMTP address to the manager, but it is not obvious that the email was addressed to the terminated user. I want something simple and something that can be scripted. I am hoping some of you can shed some light on your processes so I can determine if one is better than mine (which I am sure there is).

“A user leaving the organization is something that all our customers have to find a method of dealing with. There is no official guidance on the best way to deal with this because it varies depending on the circumstances that you are in. But, since folks keep asking me about the best way to deal with this issue, I thought I would take the time to put up some recommendations and talk about some common scenarios” --------Refer to <How to deal with users leaving the Organization> James Luo TechNet Subscriber Support in forum If you have any feedback on our support, please contact tngfb@microsoft.com Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
