Test-ExchangeSearch fails to retrieve results - Exchange 2007 SP3 UR1
Platform: Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x64 Enterprise Exchange 2007 SP3 UR1 CCR Cluster Exchange 2007 SP3 UR1 Standalone Mailbox Server Microsoft Filter Packs for Office 2007 installed Issue: 'Test-ExchangeSearch' on CCR cluster does not retrieve any results and times out after 120 seconds. OWA Search also does not retrieve any results. Databases not in production yet, but contain valid and accessible mailbox data. What has been tried so far: Failing Cluster Over to alternate CCR node, Restarting the Search Indexer and Microsoft Search (Exchange) services, ResetSeachIndex.ps1 against database (Event log reports that indexes are created successfully and that a full trawl has been completed). The same symptoms exist on a standalone mailbox server, so this is not just cluster-related, and 'Test-ExchangeSearch -Identity SpecificMailbox' with an increased timeout still times out and does not return results. This are 'Pre-production' systems at this time and there are absolutely no errors in the application event log whatsoever. It is not really an option to install Update Rollup 2 for E2K7SP3 at this stage, but from reading the list of fixed issues, it doesn't appear that this problem is one of them. What hasn't been tried yet: Re-installing the Indexing components, as per http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/thread/3ffc7fdc-39ca-4c54-953c-d06c1497b952/ but I can't believe this is necessary so early on in the deployment lifecycle... but will try nevertheless. Has anybody experienced this issue lately, with similarly recent versions of Service Pack and Update Rollup? If so, can you shed any light on what the fix may be for standalone and Clustered Mailbox Servers in this scenario? Thanks in advance!

Hi, Does the issue occur when trying to search certain mailbox or each mailbox? Do you receive any alert or error message after running the test? At this stage, I suggest you also refer to the following article to troubleshoot the issue. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123701(EXCHG.80).aspx If the issue persists, please refer to the following article to increase Event log level for MSExchange Search Indexer\General and MSExchange Search Indexer\Configuration. Then, please run the test again and verify whether there is any error message in Event Log. http://blogs.technet.com/b/ferris/archive/2010/05/03/howto-increase-the-logging-levels-in-exchange-2003-2007-and-2010.aspx Thanks.
