Hi Gordon,
Network Drives work on UNC paths i.e. \\Server1..., the drive letter G: visible to you is the letter assigned to the path \\Server1\Excel.... on your session\ desktop profile. This can be different for different users, but the UNC path (actual path)remains same.
Now the question is what is the problem you are facing when the path is updated as UNC \\Server1\....
Are you using Shared Workbook or just Normal Workbook.

My problem is the data cannot be updated if the link become "\\Server1\Excel\excel.xls.......".

It will be helpful, if you can share some more details on the steps you are doing.
If your document is a shared one, hyperlinks will be freezed and can't be updated.

it's a by design behavior of excel, you might use unc path. ie \\Server1\Excel
