Seems that Outlook has already run in reduce function mode.
What's the edition of Office you are using? Home Edition, Student Edition, or etc.
What's the license type you activate before?

Thanks Tony but unfortunately the answere was rather simple - with the Student version of Office 2010 you are only able to load part of it with the rest being greyed out. You have to purchase it seperately, what a con it used to come as part of the package in previous Office packages and at over 100 it doubles the price of what was a cheap package. I am now loading Outlook 2007 which is perfectly adiquate for my purposes.

Well. Sounds that you've installed Outlook 2007 and it works run. When you install Outlook 2010 as an individual product next time, we might be confirm whether Outlook 2010 is really activated.
Thanks for your update.
