Tracking Exchange 2007
Hi All, case 1 I was tracking a message onE2K7 in an AD site which has 5 HT servers. I logged onto the Mbx server and tracked the message, which didn't yield any result. then i logged onto one of the HT server and tracked the mail and could see some results. I wonder when there are so many HT server in an AD site which server is preferred for tracking, as the mails can choose any one of the HT server for mail transport and hence traking on only server may not provide the required result?? case 2 I was tracking a message on one of the E2K7 server which is MB,HT,CA roles. i received server mails from one of the users housed on this particulor server. When i tacked i didn't yield any results for me !!! Any help to lead me to the right direction would be greatly appriciated. Regards, Swamyswamy

Hi, Multiple Hub transport are deployed for the HA for the Mails delivery. Hub Transport server to Hub Transport server (intra-org) Hub Transport server to Hub Transport server communication inside an organization automatically load balances between available Hub Transport servers in the target Active Directory directory service site. Mailbox server to Hub Transport server (intra-Active Directory site) The Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission service on Mailbox servers automatically load balances between all available Hub Transport servers in the same Active Directory site. You can always track the message from the Mailbox server and Message tracking is enabled by default on mailbox server and hub transport server. Get-MailboxServer <servernme> | fl *messagetracking* This give the details of the message tracking settings in the Mailbox server. Check it is MessageTrackLogEnabled is True or False. Try to provide the server name when tracking and check if it works. Regards, Krishna http://smtpport25.wordpress.com

Hi,First, please understand that the process of the mail flow for the outbound email:When the Mail Submission Service which is running on Exchange Mailbox Server detects that a message is available, it picks an available Hub Transport server and submits a New Message Notification to the Store driver. It does so by retrieving a list of all Hub Transport servers in the local Active Directory site using round-robin load balancing with the exception of locally installed Hub Transport roles. Then, the email is submitted to the submission queue from the Store Driver and is categorized, routing and delivery. Thus, to track the message, we need do this operation on the Hub Transport Server. If you feel like tracking the message on certain Hub Transport Server, we can do this by configuring the SubmissionServerOverrideList Parameter.By default, the SubmissionServerOverrideList parameter is a static list of Hub Transport servers (which exist in the same Active Directory site as the Mailbox server) that the Mailbox server will notify when messages are ready for retrieval from a sender's outbox. This list overrides the list of dynamically discovered Hub Transport servers and can be used temporarily when you are troubleshooting a Hub Transport server and do not want it to receive mail submission notifications, or can be used to override the automatic load-balancing of notifications among all Hub Transport servers in the same Active Directory site as the Mailbox server.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998651.aspxThanksAllen
