UTC time stamp
a read receipt was returned on January 5th 2010 at 2:05 PM CST (UTC -6) This is what I see when I get a read receipt.
"Your message was read on Tuesday, January 05, 2010 6:05:00 PM UTC."
Is this a client setting or a setting in the exchange server? More importantly, how do I correct it?

UTC is the universal time zone, (equivelent to GMT). All other time zones are defined relative to UTC. For more information about time zones, or to work out how to convert UTC into your time zone, visit TimeAndDate.com.Unfortunately you can't change the time zone on your read receipts, simply because the sending server doesn't know which time zone you're in. If you're finding it confusing to convert UTC to your local time, you may like to try MSGTAG Status. Status displays the sent and received times of messages in your local time.Raj

Having the same issue with my Exchange 2010 server running on 2008 R2. I have tried both Outlook 2007 and Outlook Web App to send and request the read receipt. The interesting thing is if I request a delivery receipt that comes back in EST. In my scenario, all the users are on the same exchange server, all are in the same time zone, on the same lan. When user A requests a read receipt for email sent to user B, the receipt should come back in the EST time zone as it did when we were running Exchange 2007.Alex

I am having the same issue with a new Exchange 2010 server on Windows Server 2008 R2. Read receipt's from our own server are being generated in UTC time, even though the time settings for our Windows Server is Central time. Is there a setting in Exchange itself to fix this? This started happening as soon as we transitioned off of our Exchange 2003 server.

Has anyone figured out a way around this issue? When my users request a read receipt sent to users on our local LAN, our Exchange server is responding in UTC. Our users do not like this behavior. The time zone of the server is set correctly.

What about the recipient's setting? As I understand it,
the read receipt is generated by Outlook.-- Ed Crowley

According to Microsoft, this behavior is "by design". When I was researching this about a week ago, I asked Microsoft, and this is one of their responses:

I understand that it displays UTC time in the Read Receipt in Exchange 2010, and you want it to show in the local time Zone.
Based on my research, this is by design in Exchange 2010 currently. And according to some users’ feedback, our Develop team had been working on this issue and will change the new read receipt format to be like:
“Your message To: EXCH-B-848_1 Subject: RE: MdnBody Sent: Friday, January 08, 2010 3:55:26 PM (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada) was read on Friday, January 08, 2010 3:55:39 PM (GMT-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada).”
This is scheduled to be changed in Rollup 5 for Exchange 2010.
As of now, users may need to calculate the time himself based on the Time Zone shift.

Hope this helps!
