Uce archive folder cleanup and junk removal
Hi folks,
We are running a SBS 2003 server. I am looking for direction to Microsoft's utility that will clean out the Uce Archive folder. We are fighting with Drive space on drive C:/ and that folder in the exchange directory is eating up three and a half Gigs of space.
Need to shrink that a tad. Does anyone know about the utility I am talking about? It's name? where to find it?
Thank you,
Anthony

I appreciate the reply, But I have used a drive space utility. Which tells me that the uce archive folder is wasting a bunch of space.
That is the folder I need to clean, The junk mail from the IMF in Exchange 2003

There are a number of free tools to manage the UCE archive directory such the IMF Archive Manager and IMF Companion.
I reviewed these in an article here:

However be warned that all these tools cannot handle 100s of thousands of files.
If you have 3.5 GB of files I think you will first need to delete some of these to bring the number to manageable levels.

BTW if you don’t want to stay managing the UCE archive dir, consider changing the Exchange IMF Settings from Archive to Reject
under:
Global Settings | Message Delivery | Intelligent Message Filter
If you archive spam without reviewing it, then Archiving is pointless.
Here is why rejection is IMO the best way to deal with spam:

OK, I have tried IMF companion and the IMF has been running since the server was brought on-line in 2007. The Uce-archive folder is a mess. The freeware I tried just buffer overrun errors. You have a better piece of software in mind that I could try.
Thanks

Try the others listed in the article I supplied you the link for. The IMF Archive Manager is better than IMF Companion when dealing
with many files.
However in all cases you will have to FIRST bring down the number of files to a
few 10s of thousands.Exchange Message Recalling Works! - http://www.windeveloper.com/recall/

If you really need to keep the files, why not move them to a different drive?
To move all of them in a bulk use CMD --> move *.* D:\Uce_ArchiveMartina Miskovic

You may try Intelligent Message Filter Archive Manager (IMFAM).With IMFAM you can delete messages, resubmit them (by moving them to the Pickup folder), copy message content to the clipboard and last but not least report potential spam to a Real-time Blocklist
provider.

Well, it is about the same, All of the IMF Managers listed become unresponsive or cause the server to become unresponsive. From what I understand there is just to many files in the folder. I don't know if it is safe to just delete those files. Since the
Junk mail does keep track of them.

It is safe to delete those files. They are not in Exchange and form no part of it. The Junk Mail folders in Exchange are for mail that still got into Exchange. All that stuff in UCE Archive did not get into the database.
