Unable to read report metadata

I have a report from SSRS2008R2 in user in PP2007 which works there properly.

When I try to use it in PP2010 I get "Unable to read report metadata" every time I try to change the default value of the parameters.

In PP2007 it all works properly.

thanks

What server mode are you using in Dashboard designer?

Can you view the report in the Preview section of Report Setting?

Try renaming the Report URL by entering wrong report name, hit Preview. An error would pop up. Rename the report url back to correct name. Hit Preview, see if it works.

I do see the report in preview, and reentering does not help.

Server mode is "Report Server" since it is not integrated. it is part of a separate SSRS server. Actually, it happens only with part of the reports from the same server, and part work OK. The problem is that I failed to find a pater of difference between the two report types.

thanks

Check log files see if you can find any information there. Have you tried creating a new report in PPS 2010; does that work?

Ill check the log asee if I can get something from it.

Any way some of the reports do work properly.

Also we don't have an integrated mode server and the reports are two complicated to be built in plain PPS.

Hi,

I got the same problem as you describe, and looks like there is a strange behavior on PerformancePoint when you have multiple parameters.

i am using SP 2010 integrated with SSRS 2008R.

I tested with a new report and I added a parameter that has Available Values from a Query, and Default Values set to "No default value"

That one worked ok, with PerformancePoint and I was able to edit the parameter and select on from the list.

The next step it was to try to make the the same with the parameter in the report that was showing the error, but my report in addition, it has some internal parameters. So I got the same error again and again. I tried different options (internal, hidden, values from a query) but for me PerformancePoint has some issues when there are multiple parameters in the report and they are not defined in the same way.

I finally gave up.

I give up too.

Ill hack the XML file of the dashboard designer (already did it for other things).

The most annoying thing is that it works perfectly with PP2007. :(

December 1st, 2011 5:11pm

I tried putting it in the xml, but it didnt work. I could see the correct parameters in the designer, but they were ignored when the dashboard was deployed (even though the same trick worked for changing the master page). But I did something else - I entered the parameters directly in the "DocMap ID" string and it worked out fine.

Hi There,

I am having the same problem.

The paramenters appear in the Dashboard Designer Report, but when I try to preview the Report, the following error is displayed:

  • The 'ParameterTest' parameter is missing a value

And in the Report Parameters (within the dashboard designer), when I click on "Edit..." the following error is displayed:

  • Unable to read the report metadata

Any idea on how to solve it? Also what do you mean with " I entered the parameters directly in the "DocMap ID" string and it worked out fine."?

Thanks and best regards,

Joss

As you can read, we all gave up on this.

Read what I did - I think it is the only solution without changing the report.

After analysing network traffic, I found that Report server returns an error to dashboard designer because a parameter is set as "read only".

This means that there is a parameter that has been set to internal in the report.

The important thing is :

Note: Publishing a report over an existing report on the report server does not overwrite the parameter information. To update parameters for an existing report, either delete the report on the report server and republish, or update the parameter information for the report in Report Manager.

To modify the parameters information, open the report server. Go to your report, and select Manage, then Parameters ( on the left panel).

Internal parameters appears with unselected textbox for Hide and Prompt. Select Hide and then Apply.

Go back to Dashboard designer, you can now update the parameter values.

Regard,

Franck
