Unable to relay to user
I have been working on this problem for a week, and I have looked at so many solutions nothing seem to solve my problem
I have configured my SBS 2003 on my server. I am not able to send emails (using exchange server) to outside domains using my outlook client, I get the error Unable to relay to user@domainname.
Please keep in mind domainame is only used a sample in this explantion, it is real domain like hotmail.com or aol.com
1) My email server is not in a relay mode
2) I have configured the settings on my access for the relay to work.
3 I have a smtp server running, the small business virtual connector also running
What I need to know is if my A and MX records are correct or not
I) A (Host) Record
@(Hostname) Points to my my server static IP
Mail.domainname (hostname) points to my server static IP
MX (mail exchange record)
Priority 10;
Host: mail.domainname
Goesto: my server static IP
CNAME (alias)
Host: smtp
II ) I have given my email domain name as mail.domainname. Is this correct, if I need to change where do I need to change this.
III) In my smtp server connector I given the domain name as mail.domainname.
PLEASE HELP ME, if you can send me an email to ps170@hotmail.com, I can reply further with any specific questions.

OK I"m a little confised on your last statement
"In my smtp server connector I given the domain name as mail.domainname."
Do you have an SMTP connector with theaddress of * and on the general tab have it set to "Use DNS to Route each address"The Server with access to the internet should be set as the local bridgehead on that connector.
If you put your mail domain in the address space or set it to forward all mail to your address space on the general tab then it won't be able to find a route to the outside.

Hi,
Would you please clarify further information?
1. Please let me know your Client profile. Is it a MAPI profile or POP3/IMAP4 profile.
2. Please also let me know the outbound email route. Such as the following format:
Outlook->SBS Server->Remote domain
3. If the message needs to go through several SMTP server to the remote domain, we need firstly check which server generate the unable to relay message. We can check the information through Message Tracking log.
4. If you use POP3/IMAP4 profile, please also check the following configurations on the Outlook:
On Outlook profile setting, please ensure the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox has been selected and correct user account has been configured to send email.
Please
Mike
