Unable to seach content on PST's in outlook 2010

Hi Team,

We are able to search the content in .OST file, But not in .PST.

OS : Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit

MS Office : 2010

We have done the below troubleshooting

Outlook > Search tools > Locations to seach pointing to all .PST attached in outlook.

Outlook > Search option > Include result only from is selected as All folders.

We are unable to search in any newly created PST's also.

We have tried the same different user profiles, still issue is same.

Kindly provide an resolution for the above said issue.

Regards,

Muralidharan.

Hi Muralidharan,

Have you checked if the indexing is complete? Please follow the steps below to verify it:

1. In Outlook, click in the Search box.
2. Click the Search tab, click Search Tools, and then click Indexing Status.
3. When the Indexing Status dialog appears, you should see the following:

Outlook has finished indexing all of your items.
0 items remaining to be indexed.

If Outlook has not finished indexing all of your items, note the items remaining to be indexed, wait 5 minutes, and then check again.

In addition, please go to Search Tools > Search Options > Indexing Option. In the Indexing Options dialog, click Advanced button, click File Types tab and make sure you have the PST file type selected. If not, please select the check box before .PST, click OK button and then test the issue again. Please note that it may take a long time to complete indexing after checking the .PST file type. Please wait until the indexing is complete before testing again.

Please let me know the result.

Hi

After applying the steps given by Steve Fan, to verify the indexing status, please follow these steps: -

If the Indexing Status reports 0 items remaining and Instant Search is still not returning the correct search results, exit Outlook and restart your computer. When you start Outlook again, verify that Outlook is indexing your items properly by doing the following:

  • On the Tools menu, point to Instant Search, and then click Indexing Status.

Alternatively, click the arrow in the Instant Search pane, and then click Indexing Status on the menu.

  • Verify that the number of items in the Indexing Status dialog box has increased. If the number has not increased, you must wait until indexing is complete for the results.

If you are not getting results after restarting, the next step is to rebuild your search catalog. The search catalog is a file where all of your Outlook and Microsoft Windows items are indexed. To rebuild your search catalog, do the following:

  1. Exit Outlook.
  2. In Microsoft Windows, click the Start > Control Panel.
  3. Windows Vista: click System Maintenance > Indexing Options.

Note: In the classic view, double-click Indexing Options.

  1. Microsoft Windows XP: Under See Also, click Other Control Panel Options, and then click Indexing Options.

Note: In the Classic view, double-click Indexing Options.

  1. Click Advanced.
  2. Click Rebuild.
  3. Restart Outlook.

Its ok if you cant read data from pst, but if you have the ost file then using some effective ost to pst conversion tool you can re-access your Outlook data. For the same you can use Kernel for OST to PST Conversion Tool.
