I have recently installed Exchange 2013 and I am trying to share a calendar on outlook 2013 with a distribution group but I get error 'One or more users cannot be added to the folder access list. Non-local users cannot be given rights on this server.'

I have tried changing the DG to a security group and run command 'Set-Distributiongroup identity {group name} MemberDepartRestriction Closed' but this has not resolved the issue.

Any ideas? 

A distribution list is just that, a list. It is not a mailbox. If you want members of this DL to share one mailbox you need to create a resource. Of course that depends on what mail system you are using. You did not say whether an Exchange Server is involved. If you have an exchange server then you can create either a shared mailbox or a resource depending on the version.
