Hi,
Did you check the exchange server setup files - these should be more informative.

Does the server have the correct DNS server? Did it register its name?

The server is regostered with DNS and can be resoleved from any other server.
The problem appears to be with the installation program removing the settings from AD but not from the local server and therefore, it cannot uninstall the server now.

So, I guess,my questions are:
is it safe to presume that the installation had cleaned the AD settings earlier?
and what do I do to uninstall/reinstall exchange?

I am having a similar problem. I uninstalled the client and the mailbox roles, then when I wanted to uninstall the Hubtransport I am getting an error that it cannot find the server in the configuration. Now I cannot install because an error is displayed that an uninstall failed, but I cannot uninstall because of the error mentioned. Deadly embrace! How does one get out of this?
