Unable to upgrade Exchange 2010 to SP1
Hi Guys,
We have a setup with 2 exchange servers, 1 holds the edge transport server role, the other server the rest of roles. The one with the rest of the roles was able to upgrade to sp1, the one with the edge transport role gives us this error when we start
the setup:
---------------------------
Microsoft Exchange
---------------------------
Some controls aren't valid. - Please select at least one server role to install.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Any idea? Cause it works just fine without sp1.

Try a different login and/or try running the update from an elevated command prompt.

Hi Simon, thanks a lot for your time to reply. I tried logging in with the main administrator account, and also with a copy of that account but with both i have the same issue :) (also with elevated permissions)

Try a fresh download of Exchange 2010 SP1.
The error means the updat can't see the Exchange install correctly. It may mean that you have to reinstall Exchange rather than just upgrading it.

First of all check by running an EXBPA if that tells you that there is a partial installation of the Edge transport role. In case that is the situation, first correctly install exchange 2010 RTM and then upgrade it to SP1.

Hi,
To upgrade Edge Transport role server to Exchange 2010 SP1, you should first check whether the account you use is a member of the local Administrator group on your computer.
If not so, you also can use EXPBA tool to analyze this issue.
Thanks

Hi all,
unfortunally exbpa didnt help much. The domain admin is also part of the local admin group so that cant be the issue either.
I should also let you know this server also has Forefront TMG installed, maybe this is the reason why the upgrade fails? I dont want to uninstall and reinstall exchange edge because i dont want any troubles in my tmg configuration, a working upgrade is the
preffered method.Imagine ICT, Next Level Solutions. http://www.imagineict.nl
