Understanding where NDR's come from!
I cannot find any good solid professional documentation on my question to support my question either way! Are NDR's created at my exchange server for all externally sent emails?? In other words if I send an email to john@mickeymouse.com, but the account on their mail server is johnsmith@mickeymouse.com is the NDR sent from their server or is it generated by my exchange server?? I've heard a yes on both, but I'm looking for the correct answer. Thanks for the help, Scott

NDR's are generated by the server who cannot deliver the message to the next server. So in your case this would be your Exchange server. If it is able to retrieve a status code from the SMTP session it will put it in the message. In most cases the reporting server is noted in the NDR. Cheers, Mark
