Uninstalling Exchange Server 2007 32 bit Management Tools.
Below is the text of my conversation using the MSDN chat option. It should contain all the facts. Daniel: Initial Question/Comment: I need help to uninstall Exchange 2007 Server Tools from a Win 32 PC. http://tinyurl.com/lrvtmp Noah has joined this session! Connected with Noah. Your reference number for this chat session is 2493073. Daniel: Hello Noah Noah: Thank you Daniel for contacting the MSDN Online Concierge. Please give me a moment while I review your question. Noah: May I have more details please? Daniel: I installed the Exchange 2007 management tools 32 bit on my PC to do a data recovery from our backup media. Because of the way it shows in add/remove programs I am a little concerned that it will do something bad to our exchange server if I just select remove it. Noah: May I have the exact name of that application? Daniel: The file I installed is called E2K7SP2EN32.exe and is located at this URL. Daniel: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6be38633-7248-4532-929b-76e9c677e802&displaylang=en Daniel: In the add/remove programs window the program shows as Microsoft exchange server 2007, not as the 32 bit tool kit. If we go to the real exchange server we get a warning that there is an unlicensed server with my PC name. Noah: May I have that warning also? Daniel: One additional piece of information is that I have disabled all the Exchange Services on my PC, but that did not help, it still shows up on the real exchange server. Daniel: There is no warning Daniel: Ok, I know what you want now... Hold on a sec Noah: Thanks for the details, I will see if I can help to find some documentation that will point you to the right direction. However please understand that we are not technical professionals, and if we are unable to locate anything specific for your concern, I can also provide you some other support options. May I know if that's OK for you? Noah: I have searched this article about how to uninstall management tools Create a registry key to remove the management tools http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728003(WS.10).aspx Daniel: The message is... The following servers are currently unlicensed. joseph-2351 (the name of my machine where the tools were installed. Noah: One moment please, let me try to locate more information for you. Noah: Just to confirm it, after you install that management tools ,the warning message shows up, right? Daniel: I think it shows as an exchange server becuse Active Directlry list it as an exchange server. I wonder what the result would be of removing joseph-2351 from the exchange servers group Noah: mmm, In this case, please understand that we are not technical specialist, you might post your question in our MSDN Managed Forum, you will get the answer from our experts as soon as possible. Daniel: Yes the message showed up after I installed the management tools. Noah: It seems I cannot help you further since this is a little bit difficulty for me. I would suggest you post your question in this forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrgeneral/threads Daniel: Noah Ok, thanks for the assist. Noah: I will do more offline research and if I could find more useful information, I will send email to you. Noah: May I know if there is anything else I can do for you now? Daniel: I am all set, I'll send it to the forums.

Uninstalling the management tools from your machine should not cause any problems for any other Exchange servers in the org, as Exchange servers are independent. The uninstall process will not remove anything from the domain that are required by other servers. You haven't indicated the OS, but the only way that I can see that you would get the unlicensed error is if you installed it on to a Windows 2003 server, rather than a workstation type OS. The management tools are almost the complete product download, so it is very likely that you may have a full installation of Exchange eon your machine. Sembee Thanks for the information, I was a little concerned because to remove the installation it required a connection to the Active Directory Servr etc... If I uninstall the package will the Real Exchange server no longer display the unlicensed message?
