Upgrade Front End Exchange 2003 to 2007
Hi All,
My company was using Exchange 2003 (one front end and one back end). I would like to upgrade front end server to exchange 2007 and keep back end that was running exchange 2003.
Is it possible to do?
If yes, this Exchange 2007 front end is whether install as client access role?
Thanks

Hi Ray,
Yes, Exchange 2007 Client Access Server acts as a Front-End server and you need to install CAS server role, but as Exchange 2007 runs on 64bit only so you need new 64bit hardware.
Installing CAS in Exchange 2003 environment is a first step of transitioning your environment to Exchange 2007.
Here are some of the resources to understand & deploy CAS Server Role.

Hey guys,
I have almost the same plan. I have existing Exchange 2003 front and back end and I would like to upgrade to Exchange 2007. But here is the difference: I have new 64-bit server that I would use for a front end, and I have anohter64 bit new server that I would like to use for new back end server. On both servers Im planning to upgrade to Exchange 2007 front and back end. Is that possible? How about the back end server, how can i do the upgrade from the old back end to the new back end? Please provide any documentation for the upgrade if possible. Thanks in advance
