Upload Failed We're sorry, someone updated the server copy...

I was asked to post this questions here rather than on the SharePoint forum. We recently started using SharePoint. One user intermittently receives the following error when saving her changes to Excel files.

UPLOAD FAILED Were sorry, someone updated the server copy and its not possible to upload your changes now. Keep My Version  Keep Server Version

She seems to be the only user getting this error. When I check the version history she is listed twice with the same time stamp. Further I have the site set to open files in it's own application.

If I have posted this to the wrong form, my apologies.

Any ideas as to why this user is getting this error?

Hi Grlynn,

After looking more closely at this, we haven't found a quick and/or specific answer so would require us to gather some logs and do some more in-depth troubleshooting with the user. Please visit the link below to see the various paid support options if that's something you'd like to pursue:

I have had the same problem on multiple SharePoint sites. It drives me nuts. I have posted on a few Microsoft sites and involved our IT (I work for a major computer company) It appears this issue cannot be resolved. To me it makes SharePoint a nightmare to use. I have to wait and wait for my turn to edit a spreadsheet then I have to save it 20 times before the save actually does save without the above error. There has got to be a better way to share information.

We have seen this as well.  Occasionaly a user reports an issue that states the sync failed or it can't upload the changes and we keep the server or the local.  What makes this more perplexing is that the files I'm looking at haven't been modified on either local OR the server in quite some time.  The "fix" was either to clear everything off the drive and upload it again or go through and (one by each painful one..) keep the changes.  Doesn't matter which you pick when the user hasn't worked on any of the files.

SAME EXACT PROBLEM. This is especially perplexing since I have disabled SkyDrive sync from within the registry, i.e. "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Skydrive\DisableFileSync". The only thing more perplexing is that we have been directed to "...various paid support options..." for a core element of Windows (8+) :/

The reason we see this error message is in fact Microsoft Office doing it's job. The message tells us that the server version has changed and you have a version that is different from the server version. I have confirmed through numerous tests that if I choose "Keep Server Version" I lose any changes I have made to the document/spread sheet. When I select "Keep My Version" and close the file, then re-open the file, my changes are in fact there. A little annoying seeing this message when I am working on the same sheet day in day out, but none the less my versions are always current. Remember that these files are in the cloud therefore all files stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, etc. are accessed as server versions.

I hope this makes sense and aides in troubleshooting :)
