Urgent, please help
Hi all, I have a easy question about install Exchange Server 2010, but I do not know thw answer, please help. Our company has a root domain cchl.net (in Hong Kong) and the child domain cn.cchl.net (in China) : There are 2 DCs (Windows server 2003 32bit) and Exchange Server 2007 in domain cchl.net, there are 2 DCs (Windows server 2003 32bit) and one member server (Windows server 2003 64bit) which will install Exchange server 2010 in domain cn.cchl.net (there is no Exchange server in domain cn.cchl.net now). I know I need to run setup.com /preparead to extend AD schema. which domain I need to run this command? I try to run this command in domain cchl.net, but fail, the result list below : Run on 2 DCs, it show "command file is valid, but wrong machine type" Run on Exchange Server 2007 (CAS or Mailbox), it show "Cannot run this command because Exchange Server had installed in this computer" What I need to do ? I think 32bit DCs that cannot run setup.com command. Can I install a new DC (Windows Server 2003 64bit) in domain cchl.net and run setup.com command? What command need to run? (setup.com /preparead, or setup.com /preparedomain) Please help me.

Hello You can prepare Exchange 2010 schema and AD by using a computer running Windows Server 2008, you must first install the Active Directory management tools on the Windows Server 2008 computer prior to preparing the schema or domains. To do this, run the following command. ServerManagerCmd -i RSAT-ADDS http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224.aspx Thanks Mhussain Thanks Mhussain

In addition to what Mhussain says - the 2008 server (or 2008 R2) needs to be 64-bit. It doesn't need to be a DC, but IIRC it needs to be a member of the root domain, logged on as Ent admin, and in the same site as the Schema master.
