Hi inevg,

You said >> nor any UseTimeoutForAttachedTemplateLoad Usetime-outForAttachedTemplateLoad <<, did you mean you didnt find this registry key in your environment?

If yes, this registry key need to be added manually. You can follow these steps:

  1. Start Registry Editor. Please type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\Options
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. Type UseTimeoutForAttachedTemplateLoad, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click UseTimeoutForAttachedTemplateLoad, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type a time-out period for loading a template, and then click OK.

For example, if you want to set the time-out period for loading template to 3 seconds, type 3000 in the Value data box as decimal. The following table shows hexadecimal and decimal values for this key. As shown in the following figure:

If you meant after setting this registry key your issue still exists, did you need to know how to improve the speed of opening the document with the templates? Could you be a bit more precise explain your issue so that I can get more accurate solutions to this problem. Im glad to help and follow up your reply.

Hope its helpful.

the file is opened for 1 minute, but Word 2007 is really fast

There are some documents that because of the templates very slowly opened. According to the article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/970270/en-us, you can set a timeout. This option does not apply to Office 2013. What do I need to change the key for Office 2013?

Hi inevg,

It seems that this registry key useless for word 2013. As you said, Word open slowly because of Template. We might need to change a method to solve this issue.

Did you load the template from network or from local computer?

There are 2 conventional methods you can try:

Method 1:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\Shell\Open\Command

Rename Subkey Command to Old_Command

Rename Key ddeexec to Old_ddeexec

Using FileType Manager change .xls from Word.Sheet.8 to Word.Sheet.12 In the Open Command appended %1

.docx In the Open Command appended %1

Method 2:

If the issue occurred with network file, the issue may be caused by the Office File Validation, please try to turn off it to test.

Please read this article, this article is talking about the FVO in Excel, but it also applies to other programs in Office 2013.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/the_microsoft_excel_support_team_blog/archive/2011/09/29/office-file-validation-causes-slow-opening-of-excel-files-from-network.aspx

If your issue is more complex or special, you need to please be a bit more precise explain your issue so that I can get more accurate solutions to this problem. Im glad to help and follow up your reply.

Hope its helpful.

The template is on a remote server.
1. I would like to apply a universal solution for all users.
2. It did not help

Please more ideas?

Hi inevg,

You can attach templates from local Normal.dotm. When anyone opens the file, even if the template is unavailable, Word won't waste time trying to communicate with the server.

  1. Click Option
  2. Select Add-ins
  3. Manage select Templates and Click Go
  4. Attach Document template to local Normal.dotm

If you need to apply to users computers, you could use a script then use GPO to publish it to users computers.
