Use Database from 'Old' Server
I recently had a problem with myExchange 2007 SP1 server. Itseemed to shut down OK but when I attempted to restart it, I kept getting BSOD's thatflashed by so quickly I couldn't read them to troubleshoot and then the system would restart immediately. I've reinstalled the OS and Exchange and all seems to be well again. The Exchange mail store was stored on a different drive than the OS and Exchange program files so it may still be intact. Is there a way that I couldtell the new installation of Exchange to use the database from the old installaton ? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi, Please consider the following method if you do not recover the Exchange Server by using /m:RecoverServer switch: Regarding the /m:RecoverServer switch, you can refer to following article: Server Recovery http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124275.aspx 1. Please ensure the database file on the different driver is clean shutdown or log files exist to bring it to a clean shutdown state. You can use eseutil /mh to check whether the database file is in clean shutdown state or what log files are required. 2. Create a Storage Group and a new mailbox Note: The database name must have the same name as the source database 3. Set the option on the mailbox store The database can be overwritten by a restore 4. Move your database files (.edb, log files) to the appropriate location. 5. Mount the database 6. Once the database is mounted, the user account settings needs to be modified with the move-mailbox configurationonly command so that the accounts point to the mailbox on the new mailbox server For example: Get-Mailbox -Database OrginalServerName\OrigianlStorageGroupName\DatabaseName |where {$_.ObjectClass -NotMatch '(SystemAttendantMailbox|ExOleDbSystemMailbox)'}| Move-Mailbox -ConfigurationOnly -TargetDatabase CurrentServerName\CurrentStorageGroupName\DatabaseName For more information regarding the Database Portability, I suggest you refer to following article: Database Portability http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123954.aspx Mike
