User accepting mail from two aliases exchange 2007
Hi all, pretty new to exchange, but I'm quickly learning the ropes. I've got a client who is running sbs 2008 with exchange 2007, everything is setup and working fine, mail is sent via a DNS MX connector. Now to be able to accept mail from two different domains( i.e. domain1.com.au and domain2.com.au) I've setup another accepted domain under hub transport so there are both now with domain1 being the one setup by the SBS wizard and domain2 setup manually. Now the issue comes with domain2. This domain does not belong to them, but have an e-mail address (storename@domain2.com.au) which is working fine via pop3 connector and their ability to send from this alias also works fine (it is the default mail address for one user). The problem comes when they try to send to say accounts@domain2.com.au because exchange sees the second domain as part of its accepted mail domains it tries to find that account on exchange. To clarify only storename@domain2.com.au exists on the exchange server, no other aliases for domain2 exist, they go to a separate server belonging to another company. I would like it to only accept mail for the single alias storename@domain2.com.au and for everything else to go out into the real world. Is this possible?

Hi, The key to your problem is the type of Accepted Domain you've set-up for the second domain. In your case it should be Internal Relay, means that if the recipient won't be found on the Exchange server it will be send, using DNS MX, to other server. Br, Sorin Stoleru

As stoleru_sorin states you set the domain to Internal Relay in Accepted Domains. This will tell exchange that if it does not find the smtp address stamped on an object in the Directory to not NDR and send it on as Exchange is not authoritative for this address space.By default it will send it our via a DNS lookup, but you can also configure a Send Connector to directly specify a receiving Server/MTA.OliverOliver Moazzezi | Exchange MVP, MCSA:M, MCTS:Exchange 2010, BA (Hons) Anim | http://www.exchange2007.com | http://www.exchange2010.com | http://www.cobweb.com |
