Users can not accept meeting requests
We are using Exchange 2007 with a smarthost for outbound e-mail. If a user accepts a meeting request they get a bounce back from the exchange server that says the smarthost responded with #554 Message Refused#. If I setup an account using the smarthost directly, bypassing the excahnge server, the message will go through.

Your scenario described not clear. It is difficult to provide suggestion to you.
1. Accept Meeting request (Internal ?? External ??)2. Smarthost server for both in or out traffic ?3. Internal Meeting request test succesful or not?Cheers,

A smarthost is being for sending, a POP connector is being used for receiving.
An accept meeting message sent from an internal user to an external user will generate the NDR.
An accept meeting message sent from an internal user to an internal uesr will result is a blank e-mail being delivered to the meeting originator. By blank I mean there is no from address, no to address, no subject.

Issue Encountered:
A user accepts a calendar invite from an external sender, by selecting "Send the response now" within Microsoft Outlook. The meeting organizer receives a blank email as a response
More Information:
This issue occurs when GFI MailEssentials is installed on Microsoft Exchange 2007. GFI MailEssentials adds a disclaimer to outbound Microsoft Outlook appointment and meeting requests. The disclaimer modifies the notification in such a way that makes it unreadable in Microsoft Outlook.
Solution:
The following procedure explains how to disable GFI MailEssentials from adding disclaimers on responses to Microsoft Outlook appointment and meeting requests:
Open the following file using a text editor such as notepad: <GFI\MailEssentials\Data\product.config>
Add the following line as the last key on the line before the closing </appSettings> tag. <add key="DisableOLMeetingDisclaimer" value="1"/>
Restart the Microsoft Exchange Transport Service from the Services console (a reboot of the server is what I plan to do).
