Users prompted to re-authenticate after Exchange failover
HiWe have just implemented an Exchange 2007 SCC cluster running on Windows 2008 server, Active/Passive.We have some test users' mailboxes on the 2007 cluster and I notice that if I fail over, their Outlook prompts them to re-authenticate again.Does anyone know why this is? I thought Outlook used some form of Integrated Windows authentication type mechanism? According to this post:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/exchangesvravailabilityandisasterrecovery/thread/2d7f95e0-d93d-4e74-a56b-4ae5b1daccc7/Apparently, the reason is that Outlook tries to fall back to Outlook Anywhere, hence the authentication request, but the thread has died...I was wondering if anyone had any further updates? Thanks in advance.

Hi, When we have Outlook Anywhere configured with the Basic Authentication enabled, when we failover to another Exchange Server, we will be asked to provide credentials when the connection is first established with the another Server The clients are asked to put the credentials again because of the failover. It is the expected behavior with Basic Authentication. You can following KB article to get more information. You must provide Windows account credentials when you connect to Exchange Server 2003 by using the Outlook 2003 RPC over HTTP featurehttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;820281 If we want to log on automatically, we must configure your Outlook profile to use NLTM authentication to your proxy server for Exchange. (Note: We may need to un-tick "Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate") Recommendations for Outlook Anywhere http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997703.aspx More information to share with you: 321652 You receive error message and are continuously prompted for your Windows NT domain credentials in Outlook 2000, Outlook 2002, or Outlook 2007http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;321652 Regards, Xiu
