Based on the description, I still need to know something. You don't use Microsoft Office, are you using Outlook 2013 standalone? Which means there is only Outlook with no other Office applications(such as Excel, Word) included?

As you mentioned some options are greyed out, may I know which? If you can provide some screenshots of the problem, it will help me understand the issue better.
