View an exchange Mailbox
Is there a way to view a user's mailbox on the exchange server itself? If so, how?

yes if you have the appropriate rights to the mailbox you can do so via outlook, i.e. 1. Account Settings/Data Files 2. Double click on the appropriate datafile, i.e. your main email address more than likely 3. Click on the Advanced Tab and then add in the additional mailboxes you want to open under this profiles. Alternatively you can; 1. Create a new profile for that specific user and then use that profile when opening outlook 2. Use a third party utility like Lucid8's DigiScope (DS) http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp to access the online mailboxes in read only mode i.e. you can open and review items without the individual knowing you are doing so. DS can also open offline databases, provide search, recovery, deletion and purge actions.Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

I'm asking if there's a way to do this on the exchange server itself without importing anything into Outlook.

What's your Exchange version? You can open another user's mailbox from OWA in 2010 (as long as you have permission), but I don't remember if you can do that in 2007 or not. On Exchange, give yourself "manage full access permission" on the user's mailbox. Then, add the user on Outlook's advance tab.
