Virtualising Hub transports
HiWe currently have one Hub Transport in our site, which is physical. We have numerous sites, and the HT also need to be connect with the existing 2003 environment via legacy Routing group connectors, so we thought about creating another virtualised HT, since we don't have any spare h/ware.Anyone have any recommendations or points to make about a virtualised HT? Would it be better to have this virtualised HT with a lower cost so that it was used for fault tolerance only?Any, whilst we are talking of virtualisation, any thoughts on virtualising the CAS role (we already have a CAS) - would two CAS's provide load balancing for webmail?

HI, Exchange 2007 SP1 supports Virtualization except Unified messaging role. Unified messaging role doesnt support for Virtualization yet. In terms of workload Hiper-v is good selection for CAS and Hub servers. Also you must aware to refrain running other application on the physical server. you can use any Virtualization software mention in http://www.windowsservercatalog.com recommending by Microsoft. I would like to highlight some best practices and tips of Hiper-v here. 1) Hiper-V only supporting guests running Exchange 2007 Sp1 on Windows 2008. 2) Hiper-V only supporting Fixed disks, Not Dynamic Disks. 3) Storage should be on spindles that are separate from the Guest operating system VHD physical storage 4) Storage must be SCSI pass through or iSCSI (with a preference of SCSI pass-through for queues, databases and log files). 5) All Exchange server roles, except for the Unified Messaging server role, will be supported. 6) There's a limit on VHD size of 2040 GB. Regarding Virtualization... Yes agree with with Chinthaka and regarding CAS you can use NLB for load balancing.Arun Kumar | MCSE - 2K3 + Messaging | ITIL-F V3
