When I try to open up Visio 2007 files in the 2010 version, the editing and formatting functions don't really work and some of the drawings get really messed up in the process. Is there a compatibility package I can download to ensure this does not happen?

Or how can I stop these problems from occurring?

Visio 2010 should can open file which is created by Visio 2007.

So, first, try to repair Office to check the issue.

Second, try to start Visio 2010 then open the file instead of double clicking the file.

Third, try to start Visio 2010 in safe mode to check whether the issue is caused by some add-ins.
