WDS Legacy mode to Mixed mode.
I want to use Windows Deployment Services (WDS) in Mixed mode. I have installed a fresh copy ofServer 2003 release 2 so there is no initial copy of RIS installed. I installed WDS and initialised Legacy mode. That seems to work fine but when I then attempted to install the rest of it to update to Mixed mode PXE Boot stoped working. I have learned that this is because the default start-up is no longer Startrom.com and I have to add a Vista image in order to add a default startup file. I tried to change the default but that dosn't work either. I get a menu but my boot image won't load. So I un-initialised everything and will have to re-initialise Legacy mode. I have two questions; First, when I finaly do start installing Vista and have to upgrade to Mixed mode how do I get my legacy boot images to work? Second, I particularly need Legacy mode because I have several Symantec PowerQuest images that I am still using. I can't use two PXE servers because the one for Symantec has no way to cause it to wait for the Windows PXE server. The PowerQuest Boot Disk Builder however, does have the ability to associate a boot image with RIS. I got this to work in Legacy mode so I was able to boot to the PowerQuest ImageCenter through RIS. If it worked in Legacy mode will it still work after I upgrade to Mixed mode? Tom
