Did you download the setup files from Microsoft directly and running them locally or is this on a DVD or iso or something else?

I'll admit I don't know why you're getting the specific error message, but if it is an ISO from VLSC it may be worth doing a another download, they don't provide md5sums for the ISOs, so it's hard to check the download is OK if you didn't use the download manager. Personally, I prefer to download the SP1 EXE files from the general download site and install from those. You can use your VLSC code with no issues. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=21570 If you haven't already, I'd also recommend installing Windows 2008 R2 SP1 before installing Exchange 2010 - not for this issue but to avoid the need to source a number of patches and hotfixes prior to installation of Exchange 2010 SP1; Windows 2008 R2 SP1 includes these.
