Was Message Delivered or not?
I have a user in my regional office (connected by WAN to our headquarters, where the Exchange 2003 server resides) who on a single day reported that they did not receive an email in their Outlook (cached mode) until someone else sent a response to it. I checked the Exchange Server tracking and it reports something a bit ambiguous. 3/19/2012 10:47 AM SMTP: Message Delivered Locally to user@domain.com 3/19/2012 10:47 AM SMTP: Non-Delivered Report Generated I can't tell from this if the email was delivered or not. I don't know if the sender received an NDR or not. Can anyone shed light on this? There were no other problems with any other emails for this user. Just this one. Another user in this office had a similar issue later on in the day, from a different sender, different sender domain. The users have Outlook 2010.

You need to post the entire message tracking. Now if it says 3/19/2012 10:47 AM SMTP: Message Delivered Locally to user@domain.com Then it was delivered to his mailbox. The Non-Deliverred Reported Generated could mean it was generated for another user so need to post the entire tracking. There's many reasons why a user may not get a message in his Outlook and its pretty much always a client side issue sometimes even being the cached mode being the culprit, rules, accidently clicking the x button on the new item baloon etc. Check his OWA and see if the first email is there. Also in OWA do a search for that email and see if you see the original email. I tend to find it ends up in another folder\subfolder.James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Hi, The message should has been sent to the recipient. But I am not sure whether you have rule to forward the message or any other rules/action on that message. NDR seems not to be generated for the original message. So please post the entire message tracking log as James said. Xiu Zhang TechNet Community Support

to both Xiu and James for the replies. Mostly I wanted to be sure that the 3/19/2012 10:47 AM SMTP: Message Delivered Locally to user@domain.com entry in the tracking log absolutely meant it was delivered to the workstation. As long as I know that, then it's a simple Outlook issue. I just wanted to be able to narrow it down to that. Now I can. Thanks!
