Weird Outlook and Excel issue.

I work at a managed service provider and one of our clients called in with an issue involving sending an Excel worksheet via email.

The issue was that when he would use his Quick Access icons to do so it would present a weird result.

It opens the Outlook program as if part of it was Excel and appears as a white box after about 3 lines of the spreadsheet, with the regular ribbons present.

I was able to reproduce this once on another machine, but the issue fixed itself.

I was recommended to try repairing the office installation, but the client is worried about looking any settings or data (such as the quick access icons).

Is this a feature built into Outlook that can be turned off?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel Hayes

P.S. This also occurs with other Quick Access icons. There is currently a work around that we have in place where if we click the file option in Outlook and then hit the back arrow it will present itself like a normal attachment. I tried to post an attachment of the picture, but I am unable to until my account is verified.

Hi,

By the description "It opens the Outlook program as if part of it was Excel and appears as a white box after about 3 lines of the spreadsheet, with the regular ribbons present", I'm still not sure about the symptom. As your account has not been verified, please send the screenshot of the issue to our email address:

ibsofc@microsoft.com

In addition, please also provide the steps to reproduce this issue in detail, so that I can try to reproduce and find the possible cause.

By the way, repairing Office is safe and usually we don't need to worry about losing settings and data. In your scenario if you are using Office 2013, I'd rather suggest you disable hardware graphics acceleration to check the result:

In any Office 2013 application, go to FILE -> Options -> Advanced -> Tick "Disable hardware graphics acceleration" -> OK.

Alright, I sent you an email.

(EDIT)

I have tried the Disable hardware graphics acceleration.

It works like it should occasionally now.

Hi,

I received your email and checked the image, it's definitely not expected in Office. Anyway, you still didn't mention the steps you performed before this issue occurred.

In my opinion, it's a display issue, after you disabled hardware graphics acceleration, it has become better, right?

I suggest you update the Graphics Driver to the latest to check the result. You may need to visit the manufacture's official website to find the latest version for your Graphics Device.

Meanwhile, I also suggest you disable the 3rd-party add-ins in Excel and Outlook to check the result, since some unexpected issues in Office may be related to them. To disable add-ins, go to FILE -> Options -> Add-Ins in any Office application.

I hope the information is helpful.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the graphics drivers. This fixed the issue, or as far as I can see it has. I have been trying to reproduce the issue for the past 15 minutes and it's been going good.

Thanks,

 Daniel Hayes
