What does it take to do a basic install of exchange
I have been ask to find out what it would take to install exchange with no external access (no owa) and to not allow e-mails to come in but allow e-mail to go out. Also we will need to host our own e-mail servers. I would perfer not to use SBS. So what do you think I need to do this?

Hi, Please refer the answers to the questions below... 1. for No Owa - Disable Owa on CAS but it should be installed in env to support other protocols. 2. for No inbound mails - remove MX records for SMTP server or set up a transport rule on Hub to drop all inbound mails on Edge/Hub. Depending on your environment you can use a single server hosting all three basic role and one edge server or one CAS + Hub, one mailbox server and one Edge server or no edge with all three basic roles etc. Thanks. You say you dont want inbound mail but then you say you want to host your own email. What does that mean? Mike Crowley A+, Network+, Security+, MCT, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP: Enterprise Administrator / Messaging Administrator Do you still have Exchange 2000? Looking to upgrade to Exchange 2010? Read how.

Hi, In default install of exchange 2007 server, you can not send mails to outside domains and can't receive mails from outside domains. So for your first question "you dont want to get outside domain mails", you have to do nothing. For second question "you want mails to be sent to outside domains" you have to create SMTP connector for your organization.... If you dont want to install exchange 2007 on SBS, you can install it on win 2008 server, Win 2003 R2 or win 2003 sp1. Thanks,

Hi,Please understan that Receive connectors represent a logical gateway through which all inbound messages are received. So I think you maymodify some settings on recive connector. The PermissionGroups property defines the groups or roles that can submit messages to the Receive connector and the permissions that are assigned to those groups. For OWA,I think you can disable that feature,or just remove the OWA virtual directory. How to Remove an Outlook Web Access Virtual Directoryhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998589.aspxRegards,Xiu
