When selecting rooms in Global Address List the response time is 20 seconds or more for a few users...
ON a Exchange 2010 mailbox, Outlook 2010, Offline Address Book generated on 2007 server environment I have a user reporting that when they open the Global Address List and change it to view only the rooms, that it can take up to 30 seconds for it to come up... For my workstaiton it is instant... User is in Cached/Connected mode with thier client and they are getting a good download of the Address Book to their workstation once a day. We do still have Address Book generation on our 2007 environment but have added the 2010 CAS servers to its distribution.. so I believe that is all working as it should and most 2010 mailbox users are having good response times, almost instant. After the GAL is opened once, then the resonse time is almost instant.. But that first time is almost always 20+ seconds to open. Any suggestions for troubleshooting this one workstation?Jason Meyer

Sounds like an Outlook problem since the OAB should be opening from the local machine in cached mode. Look at that user's address book configuration. Perhaps it's configured to open something else that's not standard. Also, you might try deleting the OAB and re-downloading it. Everything looks good on the Address Book configuration, deleted the Offline Address Book and allowed Outlook to automatically download a new copy, this is also happening on a daily basis. Our CAS array is hardware load ballanced so started with a HOSTS file entry directly to the server to eliminate that. Occurrs on both of our CAS servers consistantly the first time the [Add Rooms] button is pushed, after that it comes up almost instantly and does not make a call to the server. Started a ticket with Microsoft on the issue. Appears that the first time the [Add Rooms] button is clicked it makes a call to the server and we have a latency issue somewhere. Did a network trace on all kinds of address book functions and they are digging through it now.Jason Meyer

If you have a need for a hosts file for this kind of thing, then you have problems deeper than Exchange.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

The HOSTS file was just a temporary workaround to eliminate the hardware load balancer as the cause of the delay. The delay remained after communicating directly with both of our CAS servers so Microsoft Support focused on them.Jason Meyer

I recommend that you post your question to the Outlook forum since it's limited to a single client. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/outlook/threadsEd Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

The problem is impacting all of our Outlook clients connecting to our Exchange 2010 environment. Microsoft support had me add a line to the address.book.service.config file to increase the MaxExecutionTime, so far that has not made any difference but not sure if the change requires a reboot or not... Also had me install Microsoft Office hotfix KB2598318, also did not effect the issue. JasonJason Meyer

Oh, that is different from your original post: "I have a user reporting that when they open the Global Address List and change it to view only the rooms, that it can take up to 30 seconds for it to come up... For my workstaiton it is instant..." If you have Microsoft looking into it, I would continue with them until you get somewhere.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Understood. What we have learned is that if the person has opened the Address Book by clicking on the [Add Rooms] button once, then each time after that it opens almost instantly. But almost 100% when they hit the button for the first time after they have opened Outlook, it will delay for 10-15 seconds. Appreciate the dialouge as we try to resolve this difficult issue.Jason Meyer
