I am trying to figure out what policy takes precedence when it comes to keeping deleted items in someones mailbox. Currenntly we have setup the following: MailStoreA Deletion Settings Keep deleted items for (days): = 100 Now I found this setting under theUSER10's properties.... Mailbox Settings | Storage Quotas | Deleted items Retention Use mailbox database defaults Keep deleted items for (days) = 200 I assume by the wording that this is a more granular setting than at the MailStoreA level but I want to be sure since I cannot always trust what I see from Exchange. Can someone answer me based on these setting if the deleted items for USER10 will infact stay only 200 days while the other users who do nothave this granular setting will have their's deleted in 100 days as set at the MailStoreA gobal level. Hi Capt, Thats correct, individual setting override the system policies settings and takes effect. If nothing set at individual levelthensettings apply based on system policies. Reference: Exchange Server System Policies

Amit, Thanks for the help. I saw your link pointed to Exchange 2000 but I forgot to tell you we use Exchange 2007. Does this book still apply. Also, I noticed it did not talk about user settings just mailstore settings. Do you have a link to docs that might contain user settings vs. systems settings as well? Thanks for your help. Capt.

Yes Capt, it's same forExchange versions. In link you can find a line says You can override the policy settings only on individual mailboxes
