Hi, I have been in IT support for a while....BUT I am no expert ! I have set up two servers with exchange - one with all email coming via POP3 connectors and one with SMTP mail feed pointing to fixed IP. I now reside within the network of the SMTP email and would like to setup my own pop3 connector accounts on this server, but I am worried about upsetting any of the SMTP mail. The last thing I need to stop the other email services fo rthe domain....that would not go down well ! Can anyone advise me if I am safe to do this ? I would only need the POP3 stuff to go to one user on the domain. A brief reason why I am doing this: I now use a laptop between this office and home and need to have all my email, contacts and calendar in one place. BUT I also wish to have push email to my iphone. I can only see this method working as this server is always on and I don't want to pay for hosted exchange services. Thanks for your help.

A POP3 connector will not disturb the SMTP mail setup. Most POP3 connectors I know of, work as a service that is independent of Exchange. This service downloads from POP3 / IMAP4 accounts and forwards the mail to an Exchange SMTP connector. A very common scenario in the small business world is to have a POP3down-loader along side an SMTP connector running on the same server, as is the case with SBS 2003 / 2008.
