I have a VPN that connects staff to the company network, however it doesn't offer a means of authenticating users to the network. I have added entries to the host file to resolve the server names, so outlook works ok with Exchange. Can anyone suggest an method for me to authenticate users for folder shares, etc?, I have tried PPTP without much luck. If someone can give me a defininitive answer on which method i should be using i would be most grateful, as i have looked around the web without any luck. The server is 2003 SP2 and the clients are XPSP2. Many Thanks

I'm a little confused.... Are you using passthrough auth with exchange via outlook or have you got outlook to prompt for username and password? Are you using the outlook RPC proxy feature? I am little confused as to why Exchange would allow the user access and a file server would not that part of the same domain. Thanks

Hi, Sorry for delay in responding. I'm not using the RPC proxy feature, After the VPN is established and i open outlook it just connects, it doesn't prompt for password. When i try to open a mapped drive, it prompts for credential's, but no matter what i enter the authentication box just keeps coming back (even with Domain Admin) I was under the impresion i could just enter the credentials wheni try to access the folders? Answer - This issue was caused by masquerading of the end IP addresses within the VPN.
